Many readers, with deep understanding of fiction, find it difficult to channel their reading sensibilities into their own fiction. We’ll look at ways that your reading can be harnessed to make your writing more powerful.

In one sense this is an examination of ‘writing for the reader’ but the key element is that the reader is you.

We’ll look at the relationship between writer and reader, covering how readers read and what readers may want. But at no point will the discussion be simplified to suggest that writers should simply write for readers.

This class is aimed at writers, readers and people with an interest in how depth and complication in great fiction is constructed. Beginners are very welcome. We will have literary examples, debate, and we’ll write during the session. There’s also the fun of being part of thi wurd’s community. The emphasis is on quality and it’s always a supportive and friendly space.
