Endings
Our new live event ‘So What If It’s The End’ is a literary night dedicated to endings. Come along to experience stories, poems, film, music and art about endings. It’s true that endings can be sad, but they can also be euphoric.
Who is this event for?
It’s definitely for dreamers, artists (even piss-artists), people who come on their own and want to meet others, people who come in groups and like cheap prices at the bar, those who like stories, poetry, film, music, art, of course it’s for creators of art as well – we know this because so many people who make art come along to our nights, it’s for people who want a great night out on a Saturday – a night dedicated to being creative, it’s for people who like community, people who are sick of all the destructors in the world and want a night that’s about making things and making things better. It’s influenced by all the wonderful art we’ve ever experienced and all the wonderful possibilities of putting on a show – maybe a lowkey show, maybe an elaborate show, a little dash of indie chic? Or is it just indie-amateurism? Could there be glitches on the night? Most definitely. Could there be moments of beauty? Most definitely? Will there be things you don’t like? It could happen. Will there be things you love? We hope so. Is it worth a mere tenner for this night out – ABSOLUTELY. And is it correct it’s only £5 for students? YES. Are uncool people welcome? YES. Cool people? That’s good too. What if you’re feeling a bit down and think it’s better to come to the next wurd event when you feel better? That’s fine, but I would say, hey you are amongst friends, so come to this one 🙂 What if it is your work’s Christmas night out? Oh god – avoid, avoid, avoid and come to our event instead. Seriously, who has ever enjoyed a work’s Christmas night out? Plus it’s still fucking November. What if it’s a freezing cold night and you want to stay home? Wrap up warm and come to our event. It will be warm inside and we’ll be glad you came along. Is it for all ages? We get teenagers right up to people in their 80s, maybe even 90s? So please tell your friends and contacts. We rely on word-of-mouth. Hopefully we’ll see you there, or maybe we won’t see you there … but whatever happens it’ll be a great night with two hosts and a lot of artistic quality and variety.
What to Expect
The night takes place in an iconic venue, The Debates Chamber, at Glasgow University Union. Doors open at 7pm, the show starts at 7.30pm with readings of fiction, memoir and poetry. There will be some live music from our special guest musician. We will also show the Scottish BAFTA award winning film ‘Paternal Advice’ by Lisa Clarkson. How exciting to be screening this film in the very week it won its BAFTA.

There will be breaks during the night to enjoy the student prices at the bar and to browse our stalls that sell books, magazines, t-shirts, totes, badges and more. The event ends around 10.15pm. For those wishing to attend the aftershow, we will move to our private bar in the GUU and stay open until 1am for curated playlists and chat. It’s a very friendly environment. All welcome to that part.
Live Writing
For the first time ever at one of our events we will have a (very optional) live group writing task. So do bring pencils and paper if you can. This task will also give the opportunity for some of the audience to join us as readers on stage.

Part of the fun of a wurd night is meeting writers, filmmakers, musicians and artists, many based in Scotland and some from further afield (we always have people travelling from across the UK, Ireland, mainland Europe and beyond to be there on the night). It is always a multi-generational audience. Everyone is welcome. I also like that many people come on their own to our events and end up making friends. If you are extroverted or shy, young or old, coming alone or in a group, you are all very welcome.
