We are seeking submissions of fiction, poetry and creative non-fiction. We are also open to experimental work on the page, this could include forms of visual storytelling.
A pamphlet series by thi wurd was first conceived of in 2018, but at that point we went down a different path, publishing magazines, books and anthologies. Now in 2025, we finally get to this exciting project.
THE CITY
For the first time ever at thi wurd we are suggesting a theme: THE CITY. This should be interpreted, and responded to, as broadly, implicitly, tangentially and subtextually as you choose. Alternatively, you might decide to tackle the theme head-on. It could be an imagined place or a place in the distant past. Maybe it could be about the absence of a city or a destroyed city. The work might even question what constitutes a city. We are leaving it open. There are no rules being laid down here. All we are looking for is incredible work.
We envisage The Pamphlet Series as an on-going sequence of beautifully designed short publications of around 60 pages. These will be presented as limited edition, hand-numbered works, similar to the way that art prints are presented. The submission window is now open and will close at midnight (GMT) on 28 February 2025. No late submissions will be accepted. We will publish this first pamphlet in late 2025.
Submissions for future pamphlets will open again later this year.
Guidelines
- Fiction submissions should be 1,500 words or less.
- Poetry should be no more than two-pages.
- All submissions should be previously unpublished work.
- Writers should submit one piece of writing, unless they are submitting in more than one category. Therefore, it is possible to submit a short story and a poem.
- We are seeking to bring forward new voices in this first pamphlet, therefore no-one who has been published three times or more by thi wurd should submit work on this occasion. There will be opportunities for those published three times or more to submit in the future.
- To understand the types of work we publish, it might be useful to read our last two publications: Alternating Current (2022) and Earthly Rewards (2024).
- We will acknowledge receipt of all submissions and get back with our decisions to everyone by 31 March 2025. We won’t offer any feedback on submissions that are rejected.
- Each contributor will receive a free copy of the pamphlet that features their work. This will be mailed out to contributors.
- A launch of the first pamphlet will take place in Glasgow in late 2025.
