On Thursday 12th May 2022 at 7pm, thi wurd is putting on its first live event since December 2019. This will take place at The Glad Cafe in Glasgow and feature live readings and music. Our stall will sell books, magazines, artworks, prints, postcards and tote bags. For one night only, we’re slashing the prices on many of our publications. We promise genuinely incredible reductions. Here is where to buy a ticket or you can email editor@thi-wurd.com for details.
thi wurd was founded in 2006, specifically to promote literary readings in Glasgow and beyond. Eventually the project evolved into indie publishing, but live events have remained at the heart of what we do. In the past, we’ve put on nights across Glasgow at venues such as Stereo, Mono, The Admiral Bar, The Old Hairdressers, The Albany, the STUC, plus various theatres and halls at Glasgow University. In Edinburgh, our events have mainly taken place at Word Power, Lighthouse Bookshop, The Radical Book Fair as well as other places.
Before the pandemic we were on a run of exciting literary events, with plans for a residency in Glasgow in Spring 2020. Instead, we moved online and our online events drew in writers from Scotland, Ireland, the UK, Europe, the USA and all around the world. Whatever happens, we’ll continue to do online readings and events, so please watch our website and social media for details of these.
Right now, we’re keen to return to live in-person events and this seems like the time to do it. At the end of last year, we did a couple of small slots: one of which was at The Glad Cafe. The atmosphere, along with the excellent sound, lighting and attentive audience, made us keen to put on a full night there.
So please come along on 12th May to hear literary art and live musicians. In addition to the live content we’ll play a soundtrack, featuring My Bloody Valentine, ABBA, The Velvet Underground, Gillian Hills, Bob Dylan, Nico, Scott Walker, The Duprees, Elliott Smith, The Fall, Lana Del Rey, Dinosaur Jr., The Supremes, The Wedding Present, France Gall, Close Lobsters, Yoko Ono, Roxy Music, Frances Nero, Matt Munro, The Marvelettes, Sharon Van Etten, Jens Lekman, Frank Ocean, Camper Van Beethoven, Stone Poneys, Pavement, Frank Sinatra, The Smiths, The Cookies, The Sex Pistols, The Pains of Being Pure At Heart, Magnetic Fields, The Shangri-Las, Melanie, Glen Campbell, Joni Michell, Neil Young and much more …
And when the music stops it will be time to present writers reading their own work. The power of writers’ voices will be central to our evening. And it will be all about the stories. To hear stories performed by their authors is one of the greatest pleasures of literary art. You’ll encounter a range of different voices and original work.
Everyone is welcome. Please consider supporting us by buying a ticket and joining us on the night. It’d be great to see you.
